Ingredients
- sweet potato400 g, cubed
- olive oil2 tbsp
- paprika1 tsp
- cumin powder1 tsp
- black pepper1/2 tsp
- salt1/2 tsp
Method
Cube evenly
Peel and cut the sweet potato into even cubes so they cook through at the same time. Uneven pieces are a common trap, because small bits burn while big ones stay hard, so aim for a steady bite-sized cut.
Season
Toss the cubes with the oil, paprika, cumin, black pepper and salt until evenly coated. Coating them in oil first helps the spices stick and roast onto the surface, giving a deeper colour and flavour.
Single layer
Spread the cubes in a single layer with a little space around each one so the corners can crisp up. Crowding traps steam and turns them soft, while gaps let the hot air brown the edges properly.
Preheat
Preheat the air fryer to 195°C for 3 minutes before adding the cubes. A hot basket sears the surface straight away, so the sweet potato starts crisping at once instead of drying out as it slowly heats.
Roast
Air fry at 195°C for 17 min, shaking the basket twice, until the cubes are soft inside and crisp at the corners. Shaking rolls them over so every side browns, giving a caramelised edge and a tender centre.
