Ingredients

  • potato4
  • cornflour3 tbsp
  • breadcrumbs1/2 cup
  • salt1/2 tsp
  • black pepper1/4 tsp

Method

  1. Mash the potato

Boil the potato until soft, then mash it with the cornflour, salt and pepper until smooth. A lump-free mash rolls out cleanly so the smiley shapes hold together without breaking.

  2. Shape the smileys

Roll the mash out flat and cut discs with a small round cutter. Press two eyes with a straw and score a smile with a knife. Work gently so the soft mash keeps its shape and the faces stay clear.

  3. Dust with breadcrumbs

Lightly press both sides of each smiley into the breadcrumbs for a thin, even coating. That crumb layer is what crisps into a golden crust and stops the soft mash sticking to the basket.

  4. Air fry until crisp

Arrange the smileys in a single layer in the basket and air fry at 190°C for 12 min, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp on both sides. Flipping browns each face evenly.
