Ingredients
- jackfruit400 g
- barbecue sauce60 g
- onion1 medium
- garlic2 cloves
- smoked paprika1 tsp
- oil1 tbsp
- salt1/2 tsp
Method
Prep the jackfruit
Drain the jackfruit and shred it into thin strips with two forks, then pat it dry with a kitchen towel. Getting rid of the extra moisture lets the strands crisp and char rather than steam and stay wet.
Season
Finely chop the onion and garlic, then mix them with the jackfruit, smoked paprika, salt and oil. Coating every strand with the oil and spice helps it brown evenly and carries the smoky flavour right through.
Coat with sauce
Stir in the barbecue sauce until every strand is coated, then spread the mixture in a single layer in the basket. A thin, even layer lets the hot air crisp the edges rather than leaving a damp, heavy pile.
Air fry
Air fry at 190°C for 15 min, shaking the basket halfway, until the edges look crisp and lightly charred. Shaking moves the strands so they dry and brown all over and the sauce sets into a sticky, smoky glaze.
