Ingredients
- bread3 slices, cubed
- apple1 medium, thinly sliced
- butter2 tbsp, melted
- sugar2 tbsp
- cinnamon1/2 tsp
Method
Toss the bread
Toss the bread cubes with the melted butter, half the sugar and half the cinnamon until each cube is lightly coated. Slightly stale bread works best here, as it drinks in the butter and crisps up instead of going soggy.
Layer with apple
Spread the coated bread cubes in a greased baking tin and lay the thin apple slices evenly over the top. Slicing the apple thin is important so it softens fully in the same time the bread takes to crisp.
Sprinkle sugar
Sprinkle the remaining sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apple layer. The sugar melts into the apples and caramelises at the edges, giving a sweet, lightly sticky top with warm cinnamon flavour running through.
Air fry
Air fry at 180°C for 10 min until the apple slices are soft and the exposed bread edges are crisp and golden brown. Let it stand for a couple of minutes before serving so the sugary top firms up a little.
