Ingredients
- Frozen hash brown patties4 pieces
- Oil spray1 tsp
- Onion powder1/4 tsp
- Sea salt1/2 tsp
- Cracked black pepper1/4 tsp
Method
Keep them solid
Take the patties straight from the freezer, since thawed hash browns turn mushy and never crisp up. The frozen shredded edges fry into that lacy, crunchy lattice you want, so do not let them soften on the counter first.
Mist both faces
Spray a thin film of oil on both sides of each patty, then season with the onion powder, sea salt and pepper. Even oiling is what turns the shredded potato a deep, rich gold rather than leaving dry, chalky pale patches.
No overlap
Lay the patties flat in the basket without overlapping so air can reach both faces at once. Stacking them gives you a steamed, pale middle with only the outer edge crisp, so spread them out or cook in two batches.
Air-fry and turn
Air-fry at 200°C for 15 min, flipping the patties at the 9-minute mark. They are ready when both sides are crisp and richly golden while the centre stays soft and steamy; serve them straight away while hot.
