Ingredients
- Bread slices4
- Oil2 tbsp
- Red chilli powder1/2 tsp
- Cumin powder1/2 tsp
- Saltto taste
Method
Trim and cut
Slice the crusts off if you want a neat, uniform chip, then cut each bread slice into triangles or strips. Keeping the pieces a similar size means they all crisp at the same rate, so none burn while others stay soft.
Make spiced oil
Whisk the oil with the red chilli powder, cumin powder and salt into a loose, pourable marinade. Carrying the spices in oil helps them spread evenly and lets the bread brown to a rich colour rather than staying pale.
Brush both sides
Lightly brush the spiced oil over both faces of every piece. A thin, even coat is the aim, as it avoids heavy greasy patches while still making sure each chip carries the full flavour and browns all over.
Air-fry till crisp
Spread the pieces in a single layer and air-fry at 180°C for 7 min, flipping them once midway so both sides colour. They should snap cleanly once cool; serve them with chutney or hummus.
