Ingredients
- apple2 medium, chopped
- oats1/2 cup
- flour1/4 cup
- butter50 g
- sugar3 tbsp
- cinnamon1/2 tsp
Method
Prep the fruit
Toss the chopped apple with the sugar and cinnamon in a small baking dish and spread it level. Coating the fruit first means the sugar draws out a little juice as it cooks, giving you a soft, saucy layer under the crisp top.
Make the crumb
Rub the cold butter into the oats and flour with your fingertips until it looks like coarse, loose crumbs. Keep the butter cool as you work, because warm butter smears into a paste and you lose the sandy, crumbly texture on top.
Top the fruit
Scatter the crumb evenly over the fruit, right to the edges of the dish, without pressing it down. A loose, open topping lets the hot air move through so it bakes crisp all over rather than staying damp in the middle.
Bake
Air-fry at 170°C for 18 min until the top is golden and the fruit is soft when pierced with a fork. If the crumb browns too fast, lay a small piece of foil loosely over it so the fruit underneath has time to cook through.
