Ingredients
- Square wonton wrappers16 pieces
- Sesame oil1 tbsp
- Chilli flakes1 tsp
- Garlic powder1/2 tsp
- Salt and sugar mix1/2 tsp
- White sesame seeds1 tsp
Method
Fold for shape
Brush each wonton square lightly with sesame oil and fold corner to corner into a triangle. The double layer gives a sturdier crunch that holds the seasoning better than a single thin sheet would.
Season both sides
Mix the chilli flakes, garlic powder, salt-sugar and sesame seeds, then sprinkle it over both sides of the oiled triangles. Press gently so the spices stick to the surface and do not blow off in the basket.
Single layer only
Lay the triangles flat in one single layer with no overlap so the hot air can reach every piece. Overlapping wontons trap steam and stay chewy in the middle instead of turning evenly crisp.
Watch them closely
Wonton wrappers go from pale to golden very fast, so stay near the air fryer. Pull out any that colour early and let the rest catch up, so the whole batch finishes at the same crispness.
Air-fry till crisp
Air-fry at 180°C for 7 min, shaking once at the four-minute mark so they colour on all sides. They are ready when they are evenly golden and sound crisp when you tap one against the bowl.
