Ingredients
- flour1.5 cups
- milk1/2 cup, warm
- egg1
- sugar3 tbsp
- yeast1 tsp
- butter30 g
Method
Make the dough
Mix the warm milk with the yeast and sugar and leave it a minute until it looks frothy, then work in the flour, egg and butter to a soft dough. The froth tells you the yeast is alive so the doughnuts will rise well.
Prove
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 45 min. A full rise fills the dough with gas bubbles, which is what makes the baked doughnuts light and airy rather than heavy.
Shape rings
Roll out the dough and cut into rings, then let them rest for 10 min. This short rest lets the stretched dough relax and puff again, so the rings hold their round shape and do not shrink in the basket.
Bake
Air fry at 180°C for 10 min until the doughnuts are risen, golden, and spring back when lightly pressed. The springy top tells you the inside is fully set and baked through, not doughy in the middle.
