Ingredients
- chicken wings500 g
- bbq sauce3 tbsp
- honey2 tbsp
- smoked paprika1 tsp
- garlic powder1 tsp
- salt1 tsp
Method
Season the wings
Pat the wings really dry with a towel, then toss them with the smoked paprika, garlic powder and salt. Dry skin is what lets the surface crisp and brown in the air fryer instead of steaming soft and pale.
First air fry
Air fry the wings at 190°C for 16 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Spacing them in a single layer lets hot air reach every side so the skin tightens and renders before the glaze goes on.
Mix the glaze
Stir the BBQ sauce and honey together in a bowl until smooth. Mixing the glaze now, before the wings are ready, means you can toss them while piping hot so the coating clings on contact rather than sliding off.
Glaze the wings
Tip the hot wings into the bowl and toss until every piece is fully coated in the honey BBQ glaze. Coating them while hot helps the sauce grip the skin rather than pooling in the bottom of the basket.
Finish
Return the wings and air fry at 190°C for 11 min until the glaze turns sticky and the chicken reaches 74°C inside with juices that run clear. Watch the last minutes so the honey caramelises but does not scorch.
