Ingredients
- halloumi200 g
- olive oil1 tbsp
- black pepper0.5 tsp
- dried oregano0.5 tsp
- lemon juice1 tsp
Method
Slice
Cut the halloumi into slabs about one finger thick. Even slabs of the same thickness brown at the same rate, and a decent thickness keeps the inside soft and molten while the outside takes on real colour.
Season
Brush both sides of each slab with the olive oil, then sprinkle over the black pepper and oregano. The oil stops the cheese sticking to the basket and helps the surface turn golden rather than drying out and squeaking.
Space out
Set the slabs flat in the basket without any overlap. Halloumi will not brown where two pieces touch, so leaving a gap around each one lets the hot air reach every face for an even, golden crust.
Air fry
Air fry at 190°C for 10 min, flipping once halfway, until both sides are golden and lightly charred. Finish with a squeeze of the lemon juice while it is hot, which cuts the richness and lifts the flavour.
