Ingredients
- Frozen corn dogs4 pieces
- Cooking oil spray1 tsp
- Yellow mustard2 tbsp
- Tomato ketchup2 tbsp
Method
Start from frozen
Leave the corn dogs frozen so the batter has time to crisp before the sausage inside overcooks. Thawed corn dogs go soggy, and the softened coating tends to slide off the stick as they cook, leaving bare patches.
Light oil mist
Mist the cornmeal coating lightly all over with cooking spray. This little bit of fat helps the batter turn an even golden colour and develop those tiny, crunchy bubbles on the surface instead of baking dry and pale.
Lay with sticks together
Place the corn dogs in the basket with the sticks pointing the same way and a gap between each battered jacket. Keep the battered sides from touching, or they will stick together and tear where they meet when you pull them apart.
Air-fry and turn once
Air-fry at 190°C for 14 min, turning each corn dog over at the 8-minute mark. They are ready when the shell is deep gold and crisp and the sausage is steaming hot through the centre with no pink; serve with mustard and ketchup.
