Ingredients
- Thick bread slices2
- Eggs2
- Grated cheddar1/2 cup
- Butter1 tbsp
- Black pepper1/4 tsp
Method
Cut the holes
Use a small glass to cut a round hole in the middle of each thick bread slice. Butter both sides of the bread so it browns to a rich gold and does not dry out in the hot air of the basket.
Crack in the eggs
Set the bread in the basket and crack one egg into each hole. Season with a small pinch of salt and black pepper. Firm, slightly stale bread holds the egg best without going soggy underneath.
Add the cheese
Scatter the grated cheddar around the egg and over the toast edges. As it melts it spreads into a thin, crisp golden lace at the edges that adds real crunch to every bite of the toast.
Air-fry the toast
Cook at 185°C for 9 min until the whites are set, the yolk is still soft and the cheese is bubbling and golden. Serve it right away while the yolk is runny and the toast is crisp.
