Ingredients
- Bread slices, thick2
- Eggs2
- Grated cheese1/2 cup
- Chilli flakes & pepper1/2 tsp
- Butter1 tbsp
- Saltto taste
Method
Make a well
Press the centre of each thick bread slice down with the back of a spoon to make a shallow hollow. This little dip cradles the egg so it stays put and does not run off the sides of the toast.
Add the egg
Butter the bread, then carefully crack one egg into each hollow. Keep the yolk whole for a runny centre, or pierce it if you would rather it cook right through to firm.
Season and top
Sprinkle salt, pepper and chilli flakes over the egg, then scatter the grated cheese around the white but not right over the yolk. Leaving the yolk clear lets it cook a little faster and stay glossy.
Settle in the basket
Lift the slices gently into the basket, keeping them level so the egg stays cradled in its well. Cook one batch at a time if your basket is small, so the slices sit flat and do not tilt.
Air-fry until melty
Cook at 180°C for 9 min until the cheese is bubbling and golden and the white is fully set. Eat them straight away while the cheese still stretches and the toast is at its crispest.
