Ingredients

  • potato4
  • cheese1 cup
  • cream1/2 cup
  • garlic2 cloves
  • butter1 tbsp
  • salt1 tsp

Method

  1. Slice

Peel the potatoes and slice them very thin, about 3 mm, so they cook through and turn tender. Rub a small heatproof dish with the butter and cut garlic to stop sticking and add a gentle garlic flavour.

  2. Layer

Arrange the potato slices in neat overlapping layers, seasoning each layer with a little salt as you go. Salting between the layers means every slice is seasoned, not just the top, for even flavour throughout.

  3. Add cream

Pour the cream evenly over the potatoes so it seeps down between the layers, then scatter the grated cheese over the top. The cream keeps the inside soft and creamy while the cheese forms a golden crust.

  4. Preheat

Preheat the air fryer to 175°C and set the dish inside, covering it loosely with foil. The foil traps steam so the potatoes cook soft all the way through before the top is allowed to brown.

  5. Air fry

Cook at 175°C for 25 min, removing the foil for the last 5 min so the top can crisp and brown. It is ready when the top is golden and a knife slides easily through the soft potato layers.
