Ingredients
- Streaky bacon6 strips
- Black pepper1/2 tsp
- Maple syrup (optional)1 tsp
Method
Prep the basket
Line the basket loosely with a small piece of parchment to catch the fat that drips off, leaving the edges open for airflow. This keeps cleanup quick and stops the hot grease from smoking on the heating element.
Lay out the strips
Arrange the bacon in a single layer with no overlaps, cutting the strips in half if needed to fit. Where strips touch they stay pale and chewy, so spacing them out is what lets every part crisp. Crack black pepper over the top.
Optional glaze
For a sweet edge, brush a thin film of maple syrup over each strip just before it goes in. Keep the layer thin, as too much syrup burns quickly in the hot air, while a light coat caramelises into a glossy, slightly sticky finish.
Air-fry until crisp
Air fry at 200°C for 10 min, flipping once at the halfway mark for even browning. Drain the strips on paper towels for a minute so they firm up to a clean snap. The pork is done when it is cooked through with no pink in the centre.
