Ingredients
- Frozen tater tots350 g
- Neutral oil spray1 tsp
- Sea salt1/2 tsp
- Smoked paprika1/4 tsp
- Garlic powder1/4 tsp
Method
Preheat the basket
Run the air fryer empty at 200C for three minutes so the basket is hot when the tots go in. A preheated surface sears the outside of each tot instantly, which is the secret to that crackly crust.
Season straight from frozen
Tip the frozen tots into a bowl and mist lightly with oil spray. Scatter the salt, smoked paprika and garlic powder over them and toss so every piece picks up a little colour and seasoning.
Arrange in one layer
Spread the tots across the basket in a single layer with small gaps between them. Crowding traps steam and leaves the tots soft, so cook in two batches if your basket is small.
Air-fry until deep gold
Air-fry at 200C for 16 minutes, shaking the basket firmly at the halfway mark to flip the tots. They are ready when the exterior is deep golden and audibly crisp; serve immediately while the contrast between crust and fluffy centre is at its peak.
